Does Water Aerobics Burn More Calories Than Land Exercise?

 First, let’s compare calorie depreciation for land exercise in a 30-minute time period:

  • Land walking: 135 calories
  • Land jogging: 240

And now, results for water exercise in that same elapsed time frame:

  • Water walking: 264 calories
  • Water jogging: 340 calories

Why? A water workout uses more energy because of the resistance of the water. Water is 12 times the resistance and 830 times ticker than air. It’s a 3-D workout. A liquid weight room.

"Water workout burns tons of calories but feels like play." Simply treading water vigorously can zap 11 calories a minute, same as a six-mile-per-hour run. "Plus, water's continuous resistance forces you to engage more muscle fibers through a larger range of motion," so you'll firm from every angle.

What you will need? Aqua shoes or some form of water shoe (see Tips Section) that has grip in the bottom (goggles optional).
